INTRODUCTORY DRAMA COURSES FOR CHILDREN age 3 – 10
Creative drama education emphasizes process, not product. Students are encouraged to develop their abilities and keep exploring their creativity.
All introductory classes conclude with an Open House presentation at the end of the semester.
PRE-SCHOOL CREATIVE DRAMA (3-4 years)
A young child’s creative potential is developed by playing within the world of the imagination. These classes encourage verbal play, singing, movement and drama games within a supportive environment. Parents are welcome (but not required) to stay and participate with their child.
EXPLORING DRAMA (5-6 & 6-7 years)
Early childhood drama courses are designed to encourage creative exploration through improvisation, poetry, movement and song. "Exploring Drama" is a great confidence builder as students discover the fun of story telling through dramatic play.
SO DRAMATIC! ( 6-7 years)
This class gives students an opportunity to explore the three main aspects of theatre. By integrating acting, dancing and singing, young students will learn how to create and maintain characters while performing scenes, dances and songs. The spirit of the class is playful and fun.
INTRODUCTION TO ACTING SKILLS (Trinity classes) ( 7-9 years)
This course introduces young children to our specialized Trinity Guildhall program, and fosters a love of language and speech. There is an emphasis on exploring poetry, and prose while specializing in voice, movement and acting skills. The second semester is longer to allow for students to prepare for Trinity Guildhall examinations. Exam fee is not included.
CREATING DRAMA (8-10 years)
Creative story telling is a vital part of drama. This course introduces students to various ways of telling a story through movement, voice, improvisation, word play and creating characters. Students will create original stories as well as explore myths, folk tales and classic children's literature to discover themes and ideas.
MUSICAL THEATRE (8-10 years)
OSSD's Introductory Musical Theatre class lets young students learn how to tell a story through words, movement and song. Students get a chance to act, sing, dance and work chorally as a group. Musical theatre themes and songs are selected based on the needs of the students.
