
Pre-Professional Acting Program

The Pre-Professional Acting Program at OSSD is a full-time program offering a unique opportunity for dedicated students. A conservatory style curriculum of professionally based training helps you to develop the skills you need for a career in acting.
The primary emphasis of the program is on embedding the basic skills that an actor relies on to work successfully in the profession. What makes OSSD’s program unique is a commitment to help you begin to find your own artistic voice. At OSSD there is a focus on the development and creation of new work, coupled with intensive and specific training.
The program is recognized by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development. Tuition receipts are issued for students 16 years and older. Students may apply RESP funds to the program tuition.
Enrolment is limited, ensuring individualized attention and a personalized approach benefiting students from a wide range of experiences and backgrounds.
Training
The Pre-Professional Acting Program is a full-time program consisting of 2 yrs, 5 semesters, running from September to May. Twenty hours per week of classes are concentrated into three full days, allowing students to secure outside work to support their studies. Additional rehearsal times are scheduled as needed.
• The First Semester is devoted to classes in voice, movement and individual acting skills, ending with a vocal masque (5 minutes solo created performance).
• The Second Semester is devoted to classes in voice, movement, acting skills and stage combat , ending with a 20 minutes two handed vocal masque performance.
• The Third Semester is devoted to classes in voice, movement, clown, commedia, mask, scene study and singing, ending with a 30 minute solo created performance.
• The Fourth Semester is devoted to production. Students are cast in a Theatre for Young Audiences production and a co-production with Third Wall Theatre Company. Class time is devoted to audition technique and business of acting.
• The Fifth Semester is devoted to preparing a show for the Ottawa Fringe Festival.
Audition entry only, and open to alumni.
Optional accreditation is available through Trinity College, London.

Audition Requirements
Please prepare two monologues for the audition. Two minutes maximum length each. The monologue MUST be from a published play.
