Erin Downey, Interim Artistic Director

Amanda
Erin Downey is the child of two former actors-turned-professional agent and broadcaster who grew up immersed in the world of the performing arts and media. Her father represented Kiefer Sutherland, Sonja Smits, Richard Monette, and Geraint Wyn-Davis, while her mother worked in the productions of Polka Dot Door and Today's Special for TVO. In this environment, it was not surprising that Erin dreamed of being an actress herself and had a brief stint as a child actor. But she ultimately chose a career path that took her behind-the-scenes working first in the broadcast industry and later into children's theatre. During her time as co-Director of the Montreal Children's Theatre, enrolment tripled, as the school added a semester program and expanded its performance program. Erin also sought out former students and inspired them to organize a gala 75th anniversary celebration which for the first time brought together alumni, ranging from some of the very first students who attended the school in the1930s to those from the present day. Erin moved to Ottawa in 2009 and is thrilled to serve as interim Artistic Director while Amanda takes a well-deserved one-year sabbatical.
